Last Thursday, on the top floor of the modern yet industrial campus of the esteemed fashion university, Istituto Marangoni, Fashion Crossover London held an inspiring industry talk about dreams and achieving those dreams. Guests gathered in the heart of East London, on Fashion Street — could there be a more topical location — for an evening full of fashion.
Fashion Crossover London is seasoned when it comes to hosting industry talks, yet this time there was a surprise. We didn’t come alone, as a good luck charm we brought one of our most successful graduate designers from our Graduate Talent Programme
, Viola Menchini
. The Marangoni alumni was warmly greeted by students, alumni and tutors as it hadn’t even been a year since she herself graduated from the fashion design course. Yet this time around, she was at the other side of the table — quite literally — sharing her story on how she managed to achieve her dreams following her graduation.
As guests started filling the room, the latest Squarespace commercial <Dream It> was shown, ours and Viola’s biggest achievement so far. Directed by Spike Jonze, featuring British designer Idris Elba OBE and Viola Menchini’s, now iconic, floral printed silk dress. And with this video, we were launched into a thirty-minute conversation between Viola and Since Wang, Founder of Fashion Crossover.
Both ladies happily talked away, covering topics such as the daunting void that follows graduation, dreams and future prospects, feelings of loneliness and how this informed her graduate collection. The audience laughed and nodded in agreement when she disclosed that the dating app Tinder had been a source of inspiration for her L’amor Perduto graduate collection.
Like proud parents, Fashion Crossover London presented our designer with flowers as guests made their way to end of the room to grab a drink where our guests had the opportunity to chat to both our ladies as well as fire away their most burning questions.
A successful evening of dreaming with our designer Viola Menchini proving that fresh talents are the cornerstone of the fashion industry in the future. One of our core values is promoting and supporting emerging talents in the international and saturated fashion industry. If we work hand in hand we can manage to achieve not only our dreams but also those of many young graduate designers. Through the help of Fashion Crossover London’s Graduate Talent Programme
, we believe that unique and unprecedented originality from graduate designers can live up to their true potential.
