Artist Nii Amon KoteiWho else to make the National Coat of Arms than the distinguished Artist Nii Amon Kotei (1915-2011) on 4 March 1957. He was commissioned to make the design by Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the then British Colonial administration as independence drew near in 1957. The Ghana Coat of Arms, found on all government official letter heads, is composed of a shield, divided into four quarters by a green St. George's Cross, rimmed with gold. This was the first political party with a Ghanaian origin in the gold coast and Ghana. The big six fought for the independence of Ghana from British colonial rule. March 6 1957 marks the declaration of independence by Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah. This made Ghana the first sub-Saharan African country to achieve independence from British colonial rule.
