Alice Henfrey’s maximalist sports luxe graduate collection is filled with disturbed twists, contorted shapes and hung elements.

Alice’s collection was inspired by historical sportswear silhouettes from her dad’s personal Olympic magazine collection. From these she established large billowing shapes in contrast to tight restrictive bodies, this became the foundation silhouette throughout each of her designs.

Alice enhanced this silhouette through 3D development, using personal swimsuits ranging from different periods in her competitive swimming background. She wrapped, hung and distorted them on the body, tangling voluminous jackets and trousers into the constricted body fit suits to juxtapose volume and create irregularity.

Taking reference from the Victorian bustle dress, Alice found details of flamboyant and odd trimmings, which provided an unusual contrast within my sportswear collection. She developed these trims to form intricate laser cut patterns which then became pleated, twisted and smocked. She incorporating these to create her maximalist six-look sportswear collection.

Alice’s collection contains fourteen swimwear pieces that are tangled, wrapped and twisted together to form six looks. Layered over these are a range of jackets, pleated trousers and a two-piece tracksuit. All are hyper feminine, decorated with flamboyant laser cut trimmings and pleated elements with matching embellished platform trainers.
