Anne-Marie Kirollos: Voyage Aux Bords Du Nil

" My collection is the story of a global and intellectual woman who goes on a trip on the banks of the Nile in 1940, travelling in different cities where she accommodates the cultures she encounters. She makes every dress she wears a window into cities that have not been fully discovered by the West ... but not fully discovered by the Egyptians themselves. "

Mary is inspired by the fashion of men's suits of the 1940s and redesigned them with femininity to gain women strength because they are convinced of the role and influence of fashion design to empower women in various fields of work.

In the Voyage of Aux Bords De Nil 1940, Mary re-formulated a set of Egyptian traditional arts and crafts in a contemporary fashion and brings them from Egypt to the Western world.

The collection revolves around the selection of colours inherited from Egyptian scenes with blue, green and orange. Each piece in the collection is characterised by the traditional techniques that Egyptian women still follow, including the technique of tali art, tent making, the blowing of glass, the craft of seashells, fishing nets and more.

The aim of this collection is to assist in the revival of traditional Egyptian hand-made textiles.

Each look is made up of a unique artistic story, in an attempt to contribute to the economic empowerment of Egyptian women and to improve women's rights within society.
