Khowaja draws inspiration from the forgotten historic references from the culture of her Pakistani heritage where she explores the folds, soft drape, and unique textile motifs. With her designs the designer aims to place history of her culture into the contemporary, by not re-inventing but rather re-imagining the motifs into the high-tech modern world. Khowaja’s collection also re-defines the definition of cultural appropriation, positiong a new perspective where the designer firmly believes that all cultures should be available for all to enjoy, admire, and celebrate. This firm belief is influenced by her in-depth research about the historic events surrounding wars, colonisations, and independances, leaving a blurred veil around cultural identities and ownerships.

This is approached by her with great sensitivity, keeping in mind to be respectful while exploring the unusual cross-cultural inspirations for her designs.
