Kingston University celebrates 10 years of MA Fashion with top names in the industry
On 19th of October Kingston University’s School of Art celebrated 10 years of their MA Fashion degree with a sleek list of top-notch fashion insiders opening up London’s Design Museum for the exclusive fashion show.
Kingston School of Art has landed a silver medal on the Global fashion school rankings by both The Business of Fashion and The Guardian in 2017, with no surprise their exclusive fashion show celebrating 10 years of MA Fashion Kingston University attracted both university community and industry insiders including iconic fashion writers and Creative Directors from the likes of Vogue to Disorder Magazine, and buyers from backgrounds as diverse as Kering Group, Inditex, TopShop, and other industry leaders.
The fashion show presented RTW womenswear collections of ten MA Fashion Kingston University students. According to the newly appointed MA Fashion Course leader Richard Sorger, all designers, although presenting different aesthetics, are questioning the relevance of the fashion industry today. In addition, embracing the current fashion state, each of the designers has tried to reject the temptation of avant-garde for the sake of shock or novelty. Naturally, fashion scouts and buyers were happy to see the talents to potentially grow and invest in.
Ten MA students Jeonghyeon Hahn, Dardana Etchike, Kejia Wucheng, Minji Ko, Sanna Olsson, Chaerin Lee, Marika Fujita, Joohye Emma Park, Yehua Fan and Caroline Perino showed their degree collections ranging from modern evening dresses to fur coats.
It was the first time the new Design Museum opened their door to the fashion show, attended by the well-known industry editors such as a veteran fashion journalist Hillary Alexander OBE, Creative Director Justin O’Shea, British fashion commentator and diversity influencer Caryn Franklin MBE, and others.
Kingston School of Art has been renowned for the successfully enabling their fashion design students to pursue careers in fashion by constantly helping them to actively engage with the industry. We’re honoured to have been included on their industry seminar agenda, having met with the talented and business savvy students and fashion stars of tomorrow.
