Christine Safadi has recently graduated from Central Saint Martins where she studied BA (Hons) Jewellery Design. Her graduate collection, titled ‘Like The Phoenix...’ is inspired by the city of Beirut’s resilience. Informed by its layered and volatile history, Christine looks back into Lebanon’s ancient Phoenician past, drawing inspiration from its culture and jewellery.

A nod to Phoenicia’s title as ‘land of the purple’, Christine uses amethyst stones and, reimaging the ancient technique of granulation, utilises them to highlight ‘scars’ she forms in her work. Her collection is a hopeful one, suggesting value is to be found in scars and the healing process, which she encourages people to wear proudly, as a testimony to overcoming struggles.
