Claudia Carpentier is the French girl with Caribbean roots you are about to see everywhere. Olive-skinned and raven-eyed, she is without a doubt one of the most impressive models to rise through the ranks.

The catalyst for an industry-wide shake up, the brilliantly bright beauty is just getting started. Attending A-List events such as Cannes International Film Festival and giving her all to charity events such as AMFAR, where millions of pounds are raised, Claudia is never content with merely keeping up, she is absolutely owning it. We caught up with the impressive individual to talk dream projects, red carpet appearances and helping both others and the environment.

ECO WARRIOR

“I’m a Caribbean girl of the islands, so I have always loved nature. When I was a teenager I spent one month in the forest of Amazonia as part of an eco tourism project. I’m currently working on a future event that will happen in St Barts that will be about environmental preservation and sustainability. Also, when I was working in South Africa, I was lucky enough to meet Nelson Mandela. What he did for South Africa was truly incredible; helping to bring an end to apartheid and also being a global advocate for human rights makes him a truly inspirational human being in my eyes.”

CANNES FILM FESTIVAL x ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

“The 70th Anniversary of Cannes International Film Festival was amazing. It was very glamorous and lavish but it was also intense behind all of the allure and sparkle. It was an incredible opportunity as a range of celebrities including Will Smith, Nicole Kidman and Bing Bing Fan, from all around the world such as China, England, America, Korea, Japan and Europe attended.

My first experience on the red carpet went really well. It was for the premiere of Sofia Coppola's movie "The Beguiled." After the screening I had the greatest pleasure to talk with Sofia, who is one of my favourite film directors.

I was incredibly grateful that Fashion Crossover London (platform for emerging designers) styled me for the movie premiere. I wore a Shur Ruitz top and Wangliling trousers. This pairing was perfect and made me feel especially chic and elegant. I love the fact that Shur Ruitz uses 100% natural fabrics for her designs as I’m very into sustainability; this piece was further enhanced through its simplicity and clean cut. The Wangliling trousers could not have been a more ideal choice for Cannes; with cameras at all angles its reflective qualities were able to truly shine. I actually have a great story about when I wore this particular outfit. I was at my table at the event when international entrepreneur, Daniel Marshall, came over and asked if him and his friend could come and sit with me. Of course I said yes and surprisingly his friend was Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Arnold and I spoke about Cannes Film Festival and ecology because he is very active in that area. Arnold was also particularly impressed when I explained that the Fashion Crossover London pieces I wore were created by emerging Chinese designers who use ecofriendly fabrics. He was fascinated to know that China’s fashion industry is changing when it comes to understanding how important protecting the environment is. He even complimented me on my outfit and said that I looked very elegant. It was a very engaging meeting and we still keep in touch for any future projects”

AMFAR x DAVID BECKHAM x PARIS HILTON

“AMFAR is this incredible Gala that raises money for HIV prevention, this year they raised 3 million. All the celebrities, millionaires and most beautiful girls from all around the world attend; I went with David Beckham, Paris Hilton and Warner Brothers. The theme was the golden age of Hollywood, so everyone looked very glamorous. I was really happy that I got to wear a Wangliling reflective dress with gold ring detailing. This design is very special due to its high-end tech, reflective light qualities. The media became very excited when they saw that the dress would change colour when it was hit with camera flashes, which allowed me to get a lot more media exposure and coverage.”

EMERGING DESIGNERS

“I think it’s very important to support emerging designers. Being a young model allows me to understand how tough the industry can be, which is why I am more than happy to work with younger designers; especially when I know that they have been trained well within the industry, allowing them to understand the market, which is the case for all the designers at Fashion Crossover London. I chose to wear XiaoQian Shao’s skirt to the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The skirt was clean cut and classic. I wanted to help her gain more exposure and by wearing her designs to such an A-List event meant that her name would be able to continue to grow. I’ve been modelling for less than four years in the industry and was already given the opportunity to go to Cannes so I know how important promoting yourself and gaining key publicity is.”

MARCO GLAVIANO x CINDY CRAWFORD

“I have recently worked with photographer, Marco Glaviano, who discovered Cindy Crawford in the 90’s. I'm so honoured to have the opportunity to work with someone like him on his exhibition. The shoot was in St Barts, which was an unbelievable location to work in.”

FUTURE PLANS

“I have been talking to my agent about going to Shanghai Film Festival next year in June and I plan on moving to London to further promote both my modelling and acting careers. I also can’t wait to collaborate more with Fashion Crossover London.”
