FASHION CROSSOVER LONDON X CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS
25th January 2017
On Wednesday, our founder Since Wang was invited back to her alma mater to give a presentation. That morning, Central Saint Martin’s campus was just waking up from its late night slumber with fewer than usual students hanging around the Victorian granary. Walking into the intimate sized classroom were students ranging from BA Textile Design, BA Jewellery Design and MA Material Futures previously known as Textiles Futures.
The presentation covered three main parts. The first part gave a brief overview of her first steps into London in 2004 to the founding of Fashion Crossover-London’s platform; the second part covered the motivation, construction and ethos behind the brand, whilst the final section showcased our partnerships with designers, focusing especially on CSM Alumni. Afterwards, the students were invited to come up to the front to look, touch and try on Wang Li Ling’s, GoFeFe and Rhapsody in Forest pieces.
Naturally the Material Futures and Textile Design students gathered around Wang Li Ling’s pieces, inspecting and trying to figure out the secret behind her technical garments. The Jewellery Design students gathered around the table and without much prompting was eager to try on and examine the range of accessories displayed. Many third year students lamented their fears of being soon-to-be graduates. The fear of their seemingly slim job prospects and the inconclusive answer to their question of: what do I do next? Despite this, many expressed their interest in joining the Graduate Program and their gratitude in having a free platform to learn the practical business skills needed to branch out into the industry.
