The talented designer behind the label Audrey Alexandre is Audrey Alexandre. She creates handbags for today’s woman with all her everyday needs and desires in mind. In light of their most recent feature as part of our Global Young Talent in the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, we had the pleasure of speaking to the talented designer Audrey Alexandre about the importance of elegance, simplicity and functionality.

1. What made you choose to become a designer in particular a handbag designer?

I used to work as a Human Resources Manager which required a lot of travelling. When travelling, I was annoyed by all the things I had to carry I was always carrying several bags that were not very practical. As, I could not find a quality bag that matched my needs, I decided to create the ideal bag that is elegant and instil self-confidence. At the end of 2017 I launch AUDREY ALEXANDRE. To create something sustainable, eco-friendly and 100% made in France was very important when establishing the label. AUDREY ALEXANDRE bags offer practical tools for contemporary women, allowing them to live life in complete serenity. They are designed to bring freedom and self- confidence.

2. You are mainly focused on French heritage and elegance; how does it take shape in your designs?

For me, French elegance is expressed through the allure, the simplicity of an outfit. It is also the refusal to follow trends, and the idea of asserting one's style and voice. Elegant women are independent; they breathe self-confidence, because they have learned to listen to themselves. Following the example of the great icons of French fashion wanted to create leather goods in perfect harmony with the French elegance.
The AUDREY ALEXANDRE bags have an assertive, minimalist, sober, efficient, and timeless style that brings a lot of allure to the people who wear them.

3. Why did you decided to make a sustainable handbag line? Why do you think sustainability is important?

Being concerned about environmental issues I try to contribute to the preservation of our beautiful planet through my bags. I am committed to slow fashion by creating only one collection per year. Sustainability is also particularly important to me. I am extremely attached to sustainable development and I am committed to a CSR approach. I choose very high-quality materials such as the bull calf leather which is a recycled leather since all hides are a waste product from the food industry. AUDREY ALEXANDRE creations are SUSTAINABLE PURCHASES, goods that can be passed on from generation to generation.

4. What is the first step when designing and getting inspired for a new collection?

I am mainly inspired by the great ladies of the 50's and 60's such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Coco Chanel. When it comes to the steps of designing and getting inspiration, I observe, interview and question many people to improve, adapt my creations and respond precisely to their everyday life and their needs. After analysing and defining all the required functions, I imagine timeless shapes that inspire me, and which harmonize best and elegantly with many styles. Finally, I choose noble and exceptional, solid, eco-responsible and durable materials in shades of colour that will best harmonize with the shapes created.

5. What are your future plans?

While keeping my values of high quality, made in France, Eco-Friendly and Sustainable, my projects, in a near future, are to offer leather goods that are increasingly innovative and that will continually adapt and make life easier for their owners. In addition to current functional and safety tools, I also want to integrate inside each bag connected tools that will help customers even more in their everyday life. My other project is to offer a collection for men based on the same values as the women's collection.
