Han Zhu brings both traditional and ancient Chinese history to her pieces. Inspired by her cultural heritage, she translates the past into modern fashion. Wanting to express lifestyle and attitude through her designs, Han uses a range of different fabric and fine embroidery details in order to embrace Chinese art and virtuosity. This then allowed her garments to tell a story and evoke emotion to the wearer.

Han Zhu took inspiration from Chinese writer, XINMU, who stated ‘time was slower in the past, Carriage, horse, mail needs time a little bit, so slow, you need your whole life to love people that suit. Now is faster, everything is in replacement, so fast that life is easily to be parted even you cannot notice it.' Although this sentence isn't specifically related to fashion, Han felt it represented outlook and behaviour, which is what she wanted her collection to incorporate.

Having always been inspired by ancient stories within Chinese history, Han used this passion and tailored it to fashion. By bringing the past into the present she was able to embody both Chinese heritage and craft innovation, which allowed her garments to transform and seamlessly blend ancient culture into the now.

For her final collection, Han Zhu used traditional embroidery fabric and waterproof materials mixed with leather. Han believed she had a responsibility to her Chinese heritage. She did not want to see traditional elements disappear, which is why she chose to develop them in a more modern way.
