Jade McCann graduated in Bath after three years of Fashion. Jade studied at Bath Spa University and graduated with the class of 2020. Jade grew up in London with the influence of both her parents working in the theatre, therefore she has great understanding of the function of costumes. Jade has also had the experience of working alongside the chorus for La Traviata as a dresser where she throughly enjoyed her time.
Jades final collection Lamella en Fleur is a collection inspired by the Ballet Russes company: jade looked at two productions when designing. L’apres-midi d’un Faune (the afternoon of a Faun) and Le chant du rossingnol (The song of a nightingale) Diaghilev’s refined his costumes based on the traditional Chinese ming court dress. Jade was inspired by the oriental tailored silk costumes.
Jade investigated the complexities of the bone structure and micro-organisms which inspired her circular waving technique. In compact tissue that surrounded the Haversian canal. Near the surface of the bone the lamella are parallel to the surface; these are called circumferential lamella.
Jade wanted her colours to have a contrast between soft balletic tones, but also to include the rich colours of nature. The circular ruffles on the pink dress creates a texture that is her own interpretation of the bone tissue.
