Jake’s collection all started during the summer period when working for a marquee company. His inspiration came directly from the aesthetic of parts that were installed into these structures. One of these that took his interest specifically was the parquet dance floor. Using this as his starting point, he researched into the history of this design, leading him through 15th Century France, along the Silk Road into India during this period, where his fascination for the clothing at this time grew and developed.

Working from text was a must when looking into this era, the strong descriptions of fabrics and fashion at the time overrulled the fabrics that remained today. However by proceeding only with text allowed Jake to interpret it how he wished. These interpretations meant that he was able to combine his interest of contemporary menswear and workwear to mix with old styles, processes and finishes of the Mughal era, not being held to any previous visuals from the research meant this combination was as pure as could be.

For his final collection, fabrics were the way of telling the story, to look old whilst holding the contemporary feel. Using natural dyeing techniques was a way of replicating this whilst showing off India’s heritage. Khadi cotton was an essential for this, a green and ethical fabric, it embodies the spirit of India’s freedom and modernity, when combined with the natural dye it really showed this, bold colours with beautifully crafted fabric.
