Julien Macdonald’s SS18 show had the A list fans out in force, with a star-studded front row including Ronan Keating, Tom Daley, Amanda Holden and Rachel Stevens. However, Macdonald also lined up a range of big names to walk his runway. Hailey Baldwin, Winnie Harlow and Victoria's Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio strutted down the catwalk before joining the designer for the show's dramatic finale.
The Fashion Crossover London team were incredibly excited to head down to the Invicta Plaza for the event with Domi Perek, the editor of Mess Magazine. Even at an event filled with huge stars wearing high end designer pieces, Domi is not being driven by wearing top luxury names. Instead she decided to wear Fashion Crossover London’s graduate designer pieces. The designers she chose were Odella Yue from Kingston University, Jin Lee from Central Saint Martins and Alice Henfrey from Brighton University. Being the chief editor of a well known magazine ensures that Domi had a vast knowledge of fashion, design and style. She understands that it is about the quality, look and feel of the pieces not just the name.
The Welsh designer infused a club aesthetic into his SS18 collection. The bright lights and cocktails were the best setting for his lavish dresses. The collection was filled shine and skin-baring silhouettes, gowns of varying lengths. Embellishments in the form of elaborate beadwork, embroidered lace and crystal mesh. Additional elements included graphical botanical prints and tropical foliage in a range of primary colours, which gave his pieces a contrasting soft and hard edge. The colour palette ranged from liquid black, platinum burnished gold, copper and pewter to yellow, scarlet and a sapphire blue. Macdonald’s signature style shone through in the form of weblike knits, metallic flecks and dotted studs throughout.
