Katie Collins’ collection, ‘Enchanted Gardens’ was inspired by her love of nature. Katie is drawn to surroundings which as a child she would have believed to have been home to magical fairy creatures. Through a combination of bold motifs and detailed scenes, Katie was able to design beautiful luxurious silk prints used to create her womens AW20 occasion wear collection.

Katie begun her design process by collecting lots of primary imagery and producing primary drawings from various gardens including Jardin Majorelle, Kew Gardens and Compton Acres. Many of the primary drawings are then refined in Photoshop and Illustrator to give it a graphic clean finish before collaging and experimenting with the various motifs. Through the experimentation with colour, scale, repetition and opacity she was able to develop her primary drawings into several natured inspired prints. For the colour palette Katie combined nostalgic comforting hues with some vibrant digital inspired colours to achieve an enchanting feminine fantasy look.

The collection has a unified luxury feminine fantasy theme with nature inspired prints that offer timeless elegance. Below is the final collection lineup. Due to the coronavirus and closure of university Katie was unable to complete looks 3 and 4 so instead designed an extended print collection for scarves. The resulting end products demonstrate the enchanting allure of nature and the magic that our surroundings have to offer.
