Kemi’s collection represents a subconscious embodiment of her West African background. Becoming a reflective journey for her to reconnect to her cultural heritage, exploring traditional textile craft, and re-interpreting it in a contemporary design context. Celebrating the diversity of African Textiles, displayed in both clothing and accessories




Researching into her cultural background of Nigerian and Ghanaian heritage. Narrating a story of her own personal experiences being a 2nd generation child, and how she has navigated this, whilst being born and raised in London, Identifying as a British Individual. Documenting spaces of familiarity and exploring her own construction of identity.




Textile Design Development Knitted on domestic knit machine using a 3D partial knit technique, that created the braid like appearance with elongated stitches that were beaded with stacks of deadstock sequins.




Textile Design Development During her project, Kemi’s aim was to emulate the resouceful nature of African textiles. Using Electrical wire sleeves and transforming them into beads, which she then incorporated into some of her knitted outcomes. Colour development and surface design manipulation, is something that she also likes to experiment with.
