With a keen eye for upcycling and renewal of the Chinese traditional craftsmanship, Kun Qian recently completed her MA Fashion-Textile for fashion from Central Saint Martins, with Distinction. Her MA collection process is rich in hand-crafted dexterity, printing, and utilising crochet and embroidery skills that were enhanced from her time interning at Alexander McQueen and Simone Rocha.
What is home fantasy? Home fantasy can be the sensations from a warm bath, the sight of warm light, the sound of the water, the smell of soap bubbles, the touch of soft skin, the aroma of perfume and vapour. It can be the stories of people outside your bedroom window. It can be the life inspiration from artistic dreams during sleep. Or the feeling of reimagining an object you see every day into a new piece, to wear inside or out. This collection focuses on the comfort of soft touch. This led to my material investigations - to focus on natural fibers and upcycling things you touch every day at home. Recycling hotel tablecloth to construct into the double-sided bathrobe with cotton ribbon embroidery. Recycling towelling robes by cutting into strips to make into knots. Recycling the bathing scrubber strap and scrub gloves to make bra tops with pockets. Recycling the old quilted cushion from home to make a big pocket and decorate like an apron. The embroidery peach on the knicker is inspired by Chinese seed embroidery heritage. I want to design a collection that inspires women to dress as they like and to wear in their own way. As they wish to wear it, as they wish to live it, as they wish it to be beautiful. I hope to have a brand, not only about fashion but also for real life.
