For the project ‘Survival of the fittest’, these were the most inspiring images she found when researching mountain climbing. These images show historical and modern garments worn by climbers and showing a variation in silhouettes, colour and function. She enjoyed multi-usage of the garments, as well as combining vibrant colours together to create a bold outlandish collection.

During the design process, she created a range of collages by using historical and contemporary items used in mountain climbing. This produced technical details that can be utilised effectively within garments, and create a jacket that has multi layers and numerous functions and pockets.

Looking further into technical elements, Kyla then purchased a ski jacket to identify specific details to then be utilised within the designs. She also found that using bright colours, this needed to toned down with neutral colours such as grey and brown. This allowed me to move onto constructing one of my designs in a variety of fabrics such as waxed cotton, leather and fleeced cotton.

Overall, this is the final outcome of the collection. The garments include a mixture of technical elements, as well as creating pieces that can be adjustable to suit the wearer. The designs also include elements from a trench coat, which are also used as a multi-functional pocket.
