Laura Anne O'Neill is a womenswear designer in the 3rd year of her BA Fashion Design at Heriot-Watt University. Laura grew up in the small town of Forres in the North East of Scotland and was very inspired growing up with the Scottish landscape around her, and loved being outdoors exploring.

For her degree, she designed a tailored jacket with a unique and bold shape. She was inspired by historical clothing and wanted to bring this element into her design. This was done through a high level of tailoring and strong eye to detail. The tailored jacket has unusual seam lines which makes it a very interesting yet fun piece. The jacket was designed with as little plastic as possible as she was considering the environment and the effects fashion has on the planet today. Therefore, the outer jacket is made from 100% wool and the lining is made from 100% plant based silk. The jacket consists of an asymmetric hem with the right hand side sitting shorter, the hem then curves around the back and slopes up the body. The design has many darts around the waist. These hug the body revealing the female figure. The design is intended to make the wearer feel powerful, achieved by enlarging the shoulders and giving the design bell sleeves. These drape beautifully and flow with the movement of the body. The warmth of the wool and the brass detailing gives the tailored jacket opulence and makes it rich. It also consists also of a shawl collar and 2 pockets. The photos were taken at Duddingston Loch here in Edinburgh to bring in that historical aspect.
