Laura’s graduate collection is about the journey of a mysterious woman living in a far away world. This collection is inspired by two very different yet both highly detailed types of clothing. On one hand, it was influenced by the 1870s Victorian fashion which is well shown in the handcrafted detailed elements.
On the other hand, there is the modernity and cleanness of space suits and science fiction, which has led to a dramatic but realistic fashion story.
Working on the stand, draping with different fabrics has brought a sculptural and defined silhouette to life. The carefully selected fabrics are underlining the romance of the historical background with the use of different textures and reflecting modernity in its cool and simple colours. By using tailor based construction within this collection, I have shown the importance of knowing a handcraft in combination with creativity to successfully construct wearable and unique garments.
The collection is based on the combination of the Victorian times and sci-fi spacesuits. Both areas of highly detailed clothing and both having their own way of elegance. Achieving a look which is feminine, elegant, modern and sexy was what Laura focussed on creating. With a simple colour palette and an eye for construction and detail, the collection has a clean grown up feel for a sophisticated woman.
