Lisa Danbi Park’s collection was inspired by her Korean American identity and growing up in Los Angeles. She was inspired by stories from older generations of friends and family and incorporated these stories as details into her garments.
The design process was influenced by western vintage garments, as well as the way older Korean women freely mix and match prints together. Park began to start layering different garments together to create different silhouettes and shapes. Then she started to incorporate her own prints and develop print ideas based off stories and Korean American imagery.
Each look contributes to the theme but contains its own prints and stories. When looking closely at the camouflage print, it is actually the portrait of the designer’s mother. Garments were hand-painted and tie-dyed so that they have their own unique base.
