Millicent Barker is a University student from Beverley- small town in East Yorkshire. She studies Fashion Design with Marketing and Production at the University of Huddersfield. Her final year collection includes a mixture of influences. The first influence was taken from the cranes at Battersea power station where at that time Millie was on her placement year in London which was mostly carried out at Brøgger. She would get on the train at Victoria heading to Kent to see her boyfriend. As the train went past she was always fascinated by the construction site with the shapes and textures, however the plan change when she went to visit the site and was shown the images of the tunnelling undertaken for the northern line extension which inspired her collection, with her love of underwear and swimwear reflected in the swimwear pieces. Millie’s collection combines masculine styles along with femine silhouettes.
Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic her university year was cut short, leaving her collection unfinished and using her dining room table at home as her studio. Millie is hoping to complete the collection at a later date.
