Espiegle
Noon Culture

We welcome the return of the eccentric designer, Espiegle, who has recently returned from studying in the UK. Her brand consists of custom, unique jewellery and hats. Espiegle is the French word for ‘Playful’, which represents her brand very well.
Good at painting, sculpting, art and design, Xin put her talents into millinery. Her style is particularly unique as she combines two cultures, British and Chinese to create amazing designs for her brand.

Xin’s grandfather was in the film industry, which sparked her interest in painting and decorating that ending up leading her on the road to jewellery design.
She graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and went on to study fashion accessories in the UK at Birmingham City University. At first she wanted to get into costume design, however she found that this was not suitable for everyday wear so turned to jewellery design.

In the UK, Xin’s assistant teacher founded his own hat brand and in her spare time she would visit his studios, which is were her interest in the subject started to grow.
In the UK, hats are worn for every occasion. Xin learnt about their history and loved how to this day they still maintained their exquisite beauty without feeling outdated.
Just before she graduated Xin went to Barcelona. In the Miro Museum she saw a large sculpture that oozed hierarchy, 3D embroidered blankets and in the bookstore she encountered a fairytale called Snooker Elf, in which the main character would give out mushrooms as gifts. This wonderful trip was filled with inspiration, which then led to her first hat collection, ‘Snooker’s Gift.’

When she returned home, Xin founded her own brand, Espiegle, where she designs hats, hair bands, clips, headdresses and other accessories.
Xin’s S/S15 fruit headdress were inspired by her time in the UK. She created this collection to commemorate her school life. Each piece is hand-sewn and dyed to give them their own unique shape and colour.

Xin’s style is bold and romantic. She uses bold and exaggerated shapes such as butterflies, bees, peaches and grapes. She also uses a wide range of different material from leather and metal to wool and PVC.
While in the UK she created a spoon brooch, in which she specifically went down to an antique market to find the perfect silver spoon. She then used fire and sulphur to create her own unique shape and texture.

X“Decorate how you want, there are no restrictions. If necessary, milk and bread can be used.”
Xin looks for different materials to bring a range of different outcomes to her creations. However she does still keep in mind her consumer. You need to combine what makes the two happy. For example, she designed a wedding dress for a bride and when she saw how elegant the piece was she decided to use the bees on the hat to give the look a different kind of look, therefore combining her style with that of the customers.
Xin’s pieces have been featured in Coco Wei, Fashion Bazaar and Cosmo but to name a few. However she does not care about the fame. Her focus is on creating the best designs in order to make her customers happy. Money is irrelevant, it’s about creating unique pieces that will be loved for a lifetime.
