Ortensia Kruger is an Italian-German textile design student at Central Saint Martins in London. Her work is often driven by a story. Her eclectic upbringing has allowed her to be exposed to a lot of languages, cultures and traditions which have affected who she is today and the work that she has produced.

‘A story is what makes my design’ a story in all its complexities and forms, whatever her eye catches, a particular detail or a scene is all part of the process. ‘I strive to create tireless pieces what make you travel to imaginary places, wherever that may be, while you’re sitting in your favourite place’.

Ortensia for this particular project used sustainability and circularity as her main inspiration. Potatoes were the star of her children’s story about waste awareness. She created a shadow show in which potato peels and biodegradable plastic were part of the scenery narrating the adventures of Waltato the Potato. The bio-plastic (made of all natural materials such as charcoal and avocado peel) was all made in her small kitchen during lockdown.
