Prerana Chavan’s collection is for those who like to play dress-up. Drawing inspiration from rebellion, drag culture, camp and clowns, this series finds irony in hidden personas. A play on the unseen; a celebration of sorts, of our own make believe reality.
Finding seriousness behind being termed a ‘fool’. A ‘fool’ like the clown, more often than not, we put on layers of masks and slap on a smile from ear to ear, so as to show the world what they want to see.
Clowns can hence be seen as a symbol of alienation, similar to what most people feel about the drag culture, or in general alone or anything that goes outside the normative culture.. a culture that decides what is deemed ‘normal’ for everyone.
IN QUOTATIONS is a play on being flamboyant, standing out in weird silhouettes and colours, wearing too much of everything and blurring the boundaries of normalcy. Immersing ourselves in layers of theatricality.
