Qiuye Pan’s collection was inspired by the situation and outfits of people in the rush hours on weekdays, she took the references from backpacks, sportswear and analysis the structures, and captured the changes when fabrics wrinkle and form 3D shapes naturally during people’s movements. Qiuye Pan aimed to play with the fabrics and mixed in the sporty, functional elements to create a simple, modern womenswear collection in a playful, and thoughtful way.
By deconstructing and drawing diagrams for the hidden structure of backpacks, Qiuye Pan was able to analyze the structures of these function pieces. At the same time, with the support of large investigation to the structure, fabrics and details of sportswear, Qiuye Pan tried to blend the sporty and functional elements in her collection, She played with the fabrics to create the curvy shapes while mixing the functional details such as zippers and pockets.
To drape the best shape on women’s bodies, Qiuye Pan cut the fabrics in bias and experimented with fabrics in different materials and thickness on the mannequin for hundreds of times. Pan’s design starts from the practical needs of women’s daily life, enhanced by her aesthetics and attitude to do with clothing, which is following the natural position (curves and wrinkles) of the fabrics on women’s bodies, and minimise all the unnecessary elements. Thus the whole collection seems less feminine and more androgynous.
