Warda Mohamed's 'new nomad' is inspired by Nomads living in Somalia. Known for some of the most ancient lifestyles, I explore the distinct aesthetic and culture that east Africa has to offer. This collection aims to connect the past with the future and Warda wants to explore her African heritage. Traditional clothes will be mixed, fused and even clashed with the undertones of utility and futurism. Her favourite childhood memories from Somalia are sand and vibrant colours on the walls which inspired her to create this collection. She wants this collection to represent her community in the best way possible.

For this collection, all the pieces are handmade and designed by Warda. In the early stage, she began experimenting draping on the mannequin which then she started to infuse the drape elements to structured and tailored garments such as shirts and dresses. This has led her to experiment with the asymmetry of the garments, gathering and cowl technique which are one of the main features of the collection. Her design had then evolved from draping by combining structured elements. The fabrics that were selected for this collection are all sourced from Paris. The fabrics are all roll-end fabrics and are no longer being produced. By doing this, the collection is more sustainable and it is minimum waste consumption.
Warda’s vision is to mix past with future and infuse culture with formality. She has managed to produce a collection based on Somali heritage which is now relevant to modern-day consumers. The collection has a balanced colour pallet with the garments being interchangeable. The outfits are multi-layered however; there is still a minimal approach to overall look and styling which due to the concept of The New Nomad.
