Surreal visual narratives and outsider characters are the starting point for Carolina De Juan Invernizzi’s design practice.
Graduated as Menswear Knitwear designer from Kingston School of Art her work is highly influenced by her Italian and Spanish background and the idealisation of home nostalgia.
Her research is characterised by an interest in hybridity: merging references to push garments beyond their historical and practical context. She looks for ways of shifting traditional menswear materials and silhouette by contrasting fabrications, proportions and constructions: tailoring meets sportswear; technical that looks fragile; soft that becomes structured...
Through her design work she portrays characters that embody nostalgic feelings in distorted settings by playing with romantic and humoristic elements of reality.
