Kiang Edwin Idris Charmain, also known as Edwin Charmain is a creative designer with a focus on graphic, textile and jewellery design.
Coming from a textile-producing family in “the city of batik” Pekalongan, Indonesia, the Central Saint Martins MA Design Jewellery graduate focus on creating ethical-sustainable filigree jewellery pieces that are inspired by his hometown's batik culture and tradition.
His collections give a new life to the Indonesia Batik, by exploring the symbolic meaning behind its pattern through reconstructing motifs found in various Indonesian Batik with structure found in natural object and buildings.
Nowadays, together with his filigree master craftsman in Indonesia, he continues his journey to sustain the ancient local tradition of Batik making in Indonesia by creating a small number of Individual jewellery pieces that rooted in tradition, created with passion, and driven by innovation.
