For this chapter in our exclusive interviews with the most promising designers from Fashion Crossover London, we tell the story of how a serendipitous Airbnb encounter leads to both a lasting friendship and the launch of the sustainable leather handbag label A.Cloud. The elegant retro-futuristic designs carry their weight, handcrafted by artisans in a pioneering Chinese sustainable factory. A.Cloud revolutionises the manufacturing process of leather goods by implementing eco-friendly practises and upholding traditional, craftsmanship techniques with their refined and restrained timeless designs.

Sustainability has become a must within the fashion industry, this is a subject you feel strongly about os you strive to be eco-friendlier with your entire production process. Could you lead as through the making process of one of your bags?

Sustainable development affects both the products as well as the craftsmen. The artisans working in the factory were schooled in Italy, and had received the highest degree of training when it came to the creation of leather handbags. We didn’t just acquire a factory, we acquired craftsman who have an invaluable skillset that needed to be saved and celebrated. They brought the Italian know-how to China, and we wanted to provide them with a better working environment and treatment and a space where they can really hone their skills and in doing so, keeping traditional craftsmanship alive.

"A.Cloud puts quality rewards above production capacity, we must focus on the product itself, as this is the key to our brand. We encourage our artisans to create handbags that make them proud"

The Factory of your brand A.Cloud has a rich and interesting historical background. We understand you saved both the infrastructure and craftsmen of the Factory when the former owners no longer saw it was a profitable investment. What was the drive behind this decision at that particular point in time?

How did you find Fashion Crossover London? What makes you join this platform both for online selling and London PR Showroom?

We met Fashion Crossover London at the Hurun Report Chinese New Year’s Dinner. It has been a pleasure and we feel lucky to be part of the Fashion Crossover London-family. I can feel Fashion Crossover London recognises and respects the new generation of designers, especially the spread of female designers and female power.

In your most recent Book Collection, all your clasps take the shape of a cloud, no doubt in reference to the name of your label. What was the inspiration behind the name A.Cloud?

The brand name is A.Cloud refers to my love of clouds. Every cloud is different, regardless of their origin. We believe that an independent woman is multifarious, like clouds in the sky, kaleidoscopically variable and manifold, unravelling in myriad shades and moods. Being true to her uniqueness, unbounded by conventions, she embraces her own distinctive style.
