Growing up in the small town of Forres in the North East of Scotland, Laura Anne O'Neill was fascinated by the landscape around her, and loved being outdoors exploring. The sensitivity and her inner creativity brought her all the way to becoming a young designer with big ambition and wide range of plans for her future. She was recently featured in the March issue of the Harper’s Bazaar UK and we had a pleasure of discovering her future plans and goals throughout the conversation.

You have a strong eye for details, does it help you while designing your pieces?

For sure! I am very critical of my own work and I wouldn’t make anything I wasn’t satisfied with. It doesn’t take me long to notice if something will work or if it won’t and that could be in terms of style, fit, colour etc. I’m very happy with my strong eye for detail, it’s helped me a lot over the years and will continue to do so as I advance.

You want to bring joy and changes towards the fashion industry, would you call yourself as a environmental-friendly designer?

I am very aware of the suffering due to the fashion industry and I care for the planet we live in a lot. It’s our only home and I do my bit to save it where I can. It definitely helps to know what fabrics are better for the environment and what alternatives are out there, these are always considered while designing and something I will carry through into my career after university.

You dream big and have longterm goals, what is your main aspiration in life as a fashion designer?

I think my main aspiration in life as a fashion designer would be to see myself with my own label, I think that would be super fun and something I’m willing to give a go in the years to come after finishing my degree. Hard work but something I’m set on.

Creating your own label one day, how would you like to be described in your target minds?

Determined, strong, outgoing, fun, energetic, dependable, creative and able.

You mentioned about creating your own label, how would you see it exactly?

That would be a good idea and it is something I’d love to do. I’m super proud of this piece so to create more in the future could be something to look up to. Yes! Another goal is to be able to travel with my work. I love the place where I live just now but I can feel myself being ready for a big move soon. Absolutely! As I said before my own label is most definitely up there for my goals in the years to come.
