Yvonne Southern is an Australian Creative Director and Stylist with a passion for design and art. Over the years this love of art has influenced her Creative Direction and inspired her design approach to interior, fashion and food styling, graphics and photography. A big inspiration for this editorial was the ‘Maison Margiela 2020 Spring Summer’ collection. In particular their incorporation of food elements throughout the looks. This is where Yvonne’s idea to show readers how fashion and food can intertwine stemmed from. As of recently her work can be seen in the October issue of the Harper’s Bazaar UK. Would you mind sharing with us where do you see yourself in the close future? What are your main goals you want to achieve?
In the future I see myself at a fashion or interior magazine company! I love styling shoots that combine those two fields and even love incorporating food styling! However before I start to work towards that and move to a city, I would love to run an art class of my own for kids in my home town!

For me, the most successful approach is to plan and plan, make a plan and then 2 more if they fail! Throughout my degree I learnt that nothing will ever go smoothly on shoot day so you need to have back up ideas!

I haven’t thought of any particular dream projects, but when I do move to the city (Melbourne) I want to jump straight into the design/styling world, so assisting at fashion week would be a big one!
As an artist I believe my unique selling point is my choice to work with colour! So many artists are afraid of it or think it’s time was in the past, but that’s the point. I draw colour inspiration from the 60’s because I adore the use of it in interiors but we all know everything old becomes new again!
