Laura Merrett is a London based womenswear design graduate from the University for Creative Arts, Epsom. Her main design aesthetic combines contemporary soft tailing references with various fabric manipulation and drape techniques. She also enjoys the use of combining different textures, prints and colours throughout her work.
Incorporating sustainability is also imperative for Laura as a designer, throughout all aspects of the supply chain, whether it be the cultivation of organic or recycled fibres through to the use of non-toxic dyes and natural fabric finishing techniques.
Many of her collections take style and silhouette inspiration from vintage fashion of all era’s as she uses classical garment references found in photographs and films from throughout the 20th Century to influence her work. Her strengths lie in historical and cultural research with a key focus on heritage and many of her inspiration comes from her own heritage and her experiences of travel and first-hand exploration of other cultures.
