Magdalena Mikulicakova is MA fashion design graduate from Kingston University, London. She is originally from the Czech Republic, currently based in London. In her work, Magdalena explores the possibilities of traditional textile techniques by reinventing them in a new unexpected way. In her diploma collection “Expressive lace” she conceptually approaches the technique of lacemaking. There is a value of narrative and emotional attachment in the meticulous handwork, and this appreciation for the craft is pronounced in each piece.
Aa a passionate pattern cutter, she experimentally approaches the dialogue between the body and garment forms. Textile development always follows the garment form itself as she tends to minimize the silhouettes in order to achieve new proportions in a visually simplistic manner.
