Rui Liu is a person who likes to create extraordinary jewellery. Because of her childhood experience, the love for fairy tales and science fiction movies, she doesn't care much about the outside world, the theme of her works are mostly based on her own understandings and feelings.

The two-year study in Jewellery and Metal in Royal College of Art helped Rui Liu realized her interest in texture, colour, nature, and her way of thinking, seeing things in an anthropomorphic way.

She sees jewellery as a living creature on the human’s body rather than a normal object. She named them “Jewellnimals”. She often writes a background story for each piece of her jewellery, which is showing its characteristics. She likes to play with different materials and transform them into new meaning, therefore her pieces are all handmade. It also brings more vitality to her work.
